Old Saybrook is where the Connecticut River meets the Sound.  We are one of the oldest towns in the state, incorporated on July 8, 1854.  We have a long history dating back to 1635 when we began as an independent colony known as the Saybrook Plantation.  Yale University was founded in Old Saybrook as the Collegiate School for the education of ministers in 1700.  The Saybrook College of Yale University Seal is used as the Town logo on its letterhead and town-owned vehicles.

A community of approximately 10,000, located in Middlesex County, on the West side of the Connecticut River, 105 miles from Boston, 101 miles from New York and 45 miles from Hartford, with easy access to I-95 and Route 9.  There is a conveniently located Amtrak railroad station with frequent connections to New Haven, New York and Boston.

What makes Old Saybrook ideal for summer rentals? We are nearby to many attractions such as the casinos, theater, Mystic Seaport & Aquarium, just to name a few. Old Saybrook offers beautiful shores, vistas, marinas and an eclectic collection of shops and restaurants on Main Street and nearby. There are also two public beaches and several parks within the town, and a mini-golf course at Saybrook Point, operated and maintained by our Parks & Recreation department. We have a number of boat marinas and a state-owned boat launching area.

Each year, we have a Memorial Day parade. Every summer, under the auspices of the Chamber of Commerce, we have an Arts & Craft show, a Taste-of-Saybrook fest, a Summer Pops Concert and Fireworks, and sidewalk sales. We also have early evening outdoor concerts on the Town Green once a week in the summer. During the holidays, there is a Christmas Stroll along Main Street and the annual Torchlight Muster and Carol Sing. Carl P. Fortuna, First Selectman from oldsaybrook.org

Old Lyme is a community of some 8000 permanent residents and an additional several thousand seasonal visitors for summer rentals who occupy a shoreline complex of summer residences. Located on the east bank of the mouth of the Connecticut River where it meets Long Island Sound, the town is marked by independence, volunteering, and a long-standing commitment to the arts. Fine examples of Colonial and Federal architecture line our main streets and winding country roads.

Old Lyme was set off from Saybrook, which is on the west bank of the river mouth, on February 13, 1665. Old Lyme occupies about 27 square miles of shoreline, tidal marsh, inland wetlands and forested hills. Our neighbor to the north is the Town of Lyme; to the east, East Lyme.

Our town hosts a number of small service businesses and a growing number of high technology design and production companies. We have become a bedroom community for people who work in New London, Groton, New Haven, Hartford, and even outside Connecticut. Many residents work at General Dynamics Electric Boat and Pfizer, Inc., or with numerous spin-off businesses associated with the U.S. Navy.

Old Lyme is a great town for summer rentals. The 14 weeks of summer bring seasonal residents and visitors to more than double our year-round population. The town’s famous public beach on Long Island Sound is Sound View. Old Lyme is also home to a lakefront park (Rogers Lake at Hains Park), and several smaller parks and boat landings on the Connecticut River and tidal estuaries. oldlyme-ct.gov
